A good practice for addressing gender stereotyping that is implemented in Cyprus, is the “Cyprus Safer Internet Centre” program. This program is focuses on promoting the responsible use of the internet through addressing issues related to gender stereotyping and online gender-based violence.

This program focuses on providing schools, parents and other relevant stakeholders with resources on ways of identifying and addressing gender stereotyping which takes place in online environments. This program also focuses on raising awareness  of the negative impact gender stereotyping can have on individuals and society as a whole.

By addressing gender stereotyping in online environments, this program helps to promote a more inclusive and equal society where individuals can participate in online environments without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Results / Responses → Resulting Competences:

The results of the “Cyprus Safer Internet Centre” program include:

  1. Increased awareness and knowledge towards gender stereotypes and online gender-based violence in various settings including schools and parents.
  2. Increased skills and knowledge relevant to safe use of the internet.

Feedback / Evaluation of the practice:

The ‘Cyprus Safer Internet Centre’ program has been recognised and supported by various organisations, including the European Commission, for its efforts in promoting safe use of the internet and addressing issues related to gender stereotyping and online gender-based violence. The program has also been implemented in other European countries, indicating its potential and impact in promoting gender equality in online spaces.
