We are pleased to introduce you to the innovative co-creation counselling model developed as part of the GUIDE project. This model has been developed to enable career counselors and counselees to make career decisions through a structured yet flexible framework that encourages collaboration, reflection and meaningful decision-making. This model redefines career counselling by integrating a gender-sensitive approach and addressing how societal norms and personal experiences related to gender influence career decision-making.
At the heart of the model are eight interconnected fields that guide the counselling process. These include critical areas such as defining goals, exploring personal history, identifying strengths and developing actionable plans. A unique feature is the ‘parking space’ field, where important but tangential issues can be noted for later exploration. The model is adaptable, making it suitable for different age groups and cultural contexts, with a focus on reflective practices tailored to individual needs.
A salient feature of the model is its focus on gender-sensitive career counselling. The accompanying co-creation dialogue cards provide a platform for counselors and advice seekers to explore the impact of societal norms on career paths, promoting more inclusive and informed decision-making. They cover topics such as inspiration, motivation, barriers and prejudice, and encourage critical discussions about the impact of gender stereotypes on career choices. By challenging traditional norms and promoting self-awareness, this model empowers counselees to make choices based on their unique interests and strengths rather than societal expectations.
The co-creation counselling model is currently in the pilot phase and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. As we near completion of the model, we look forward to sharing it with the community, educators and counselors through Open Events. These events will provide an opportunity to explore the model and its tools in more detail, gain practical experience and discuss its applications.
