Institutions involved: Commission for Equality in Labour and Employment (CITE), is the promoter of the Project Igual Pro – Professions have no gender, funded by the Financial Mechanism of EEA GRANTS 2014-2021 | Open Call#2 | Projects combating Sexual Segregation in Educational and Professional Schools and Discrimination in the Labour Market, under the Programme Conciliation and Gender Equality, in which the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality is the operating entity of the programme.
Target group: Young men and women attending IEFP Professional Courses and Professional Training Centres.
Goals / Objectives /Aims:
This is an action-research project with the main objective of combating gender segregation in educational and vocational choices of men and women and the consequent segregation of professional choices, through the deconstruction of gender stereotypes associated to different study areas and respective professions, with special focus on training areas where there is an effective segregation between men and women.
This project is part of the fulfilment of strategic objective no. 2. Ensure the conditions for full and equal participation of women and men in the labour market and in professional activity, focusing on the specific objective: 2.1.3. Development of initiatives, information actions and projects that combat gender segregation in professions, provided for in the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination (ENIND) 2018-2030 – “Portugal + Equal”, in which the elimination of stereotypes is assumed as a central concern, in the Action Plan for Equality between Women and Men 2018-2021.
Content / Structure / Description including strengthening action competence
The project has the following activities:
– Manage, implement the project activities in liaison with the partner entities;
– Designing the project website;
– Prepare the event to launch the project in conjunction with the partner entities;
– To carry out a scientific study on the stereotypes associated to professional choices among young men and women attending IEFP Professional Courses and Professional Training Centres with a protocol established with IEFP, with the purpose of promoting the deconstruction of the stereotypes associated to professions where greater segregation by sex is confirmed;
– Create and implement a curriculum within the scope of gender transformative methodologies;
– To elaborate a training Toolkit based on the study and the methodology to be developed within the scope of the project;
– To promote a mutual learning session between the national partners and the Norwegian partner in Portugal;
– Design and disseminate the publication of the scientific study (e-book) and the Policy Brief on the presence of gender stereotypes in the choice of professions;
– Promote Toolkit awareness-raising actions in vocational schools;
– Promote awareness-raising actions within the scope of the Project Engineers for a day;
– Promote a mutual learning session between national partners and the Norwegian entity in Norway;
– Carry out and disseminate a national awareness campaign aimed at young men and women in the choice of professions and at professionals in the area of vocational training in the fight against stereotypes
– and the general public.
– Carry out the final event of the project and present the final results of the project.
Results / Responses → Resulting Competences:
A scientific study and a Policy Brief on the stereotypes associated to professional choices among young people attending IEFP Professional Courses and Professional Training Centres with a protocol established with IEFP, with the purpose of promoting the deconstruction of the stereotypes associated to professions where there is a greater segregation by sex;
A training Toolkit based on the study and the methodology to be developed within the scope of the project;
A national awareness-raising campaign aimed at young men and women in their choice of professions and at professionals in the area of vocational training to combat stereotypes and the general public.
